Replacement options for the Mercedes-Benz E-Class
The key used by a Mercedes-Benz E-Class can change across model years and trim levels. Earlier vehicles may use a metal blade with a transponder chip, while newer versions may use a remote-head key, flip key or proximity fob. The year and VIN help identify the correct system before service.
If every key is lost
All-keys-lost service may require decoding the vehicle, cutting a new emergency or ignition blade, and programming the transponder or smart fob to the immobilizer. Proof of ownership is required. Have the registration and photo identification available with the vehicle.
If you still have a working key
A spare can reduce disruption later. Bring every working key you want to keep active because some programming sessions require all keys to be present. We can review button layout, blade condition and battery symptoms before recommending replacement.
Common E-Class key symptoms
- The remote buttons respond inconsistently
- The vehicle does not recognize the transponder or fob
- The emergency blade is worn, bent or missing
- The key shell or battery housing is damaged
